Swing's Lew is an 18 year old off track Thoroughbred,(Sire Swing Til Dawn, Dam a Seattle Slew daughter) who in his racing career earned $99,000 for his owners. When a suspensory injury made him unable to race, he was given to a hunter/jumper barn where he earned his keep, and probably a LOT of money for the stable, helping people to learn to ride over jumps. When this activity, which is grueling, reinjured his suspensory, the barn rewarded him by sending him to auction, where a local thoroughbred rescue saved him by paying $210 bidding against the killbuyer. Lew came to TGC's quarantine area, and by the time his quarantine was up, he'd stolen my heart.
Lew's suspensory will never heal completely - we hope to get the swelling down so that his pain is minimal, but that leg will always be a weak point. And with the years and years of racing and lesson giving he has on him, you could make a real case that Lew is a lot older than his 18 years. I adopted Lew, and now he is happily canoodling in my paddock with no less than three mares in his harem!

How can anyone not love this sweet boy? His breeding shows in every line. And his manners are impeccable. I hope to find additional sponsorship for him, and have the girl scouts work with him a little when they come again in August.

Here's my fabulous boy - below, some relatives! |

This gorgeous guy is Lew's Daddy!

And THIS gorgeous guy is Lew's 1/2 brother! This is SwingSwingSwing, stable name "Mason" I sure see a strong family resemblance... |

You can see Lew knows girls - he was friendly and interested as the Girl Scouts picked rocks from my arena.

Swing's Lew is sponsored by Julie Cecere, Neigh Savers, and Debbie Friedman. Thanks to ALL of you, for your help supporting this grand guy! The Golden Carrot hopes someone else will step up to help support this hardworking guy during his retirement.
